Punctum presents an intermedia program with live scores to Entanglement Suite, a video by Janene Higgins, and to ReGenerate, a graphic score in the form of an animated film by E#.

ELLIOTT SHARP is an American composer, multi-instrumentalist, writer and artist. He moves in the field of contemporary classical music, free improvisation, jazz and noise. His composition work includes several operas (Port Bou, Filiseti Mekidesi, Die Grösste Fuge) as well as the mini-concerto Storm of the Eye, written for Hilary Hahn’s project In 27 Pieces, awarded with the Grammy Award. He has also realized a number of sound installations in galleries and museums and is the author of the books IrRational Music and Feedback: Translations From The IrRational. Director Bert Shapiro made a documentary about him called Doing The Don’t.

Sharp is at the head of the Carbon and Orchestra Carbon, Tectonics and Terraplane projects. He belongs to the pioneers of the use of fractal geometry, chaos theory and genetic metaphors in musical composition and interaction. He has collaborated with ensembles such as the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Resonanz and Kronos Quartet, as well as with cellist Frances-Marie Uitti, multimedia artists Christian Marclay and Pierre Huyghe, singer Debbie Harry, master of Sufi qawwali singing Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, blues legends Hubert Sumlin and Pops Staples, pchi-pcha virtuoso Min Xiao-Fen, jazz musicians Jack DeJohnette, Oliver Lake and Sonny Sharrock or with Bachir Attar, leader of the Master Musicians of Jajouka ensemble. In 2014, he received a Guggenheim scholarship and completed a residency at the Parsons Center for Transformative Media. In 2015, he was awarded the Berlin Prize for Music Composition.

JANENE HIGGINS is a video artist and graphic designer living in New York. Her work ranges from video performances on the experimental music scene to commercial video production to CD cover designs for publishers such as Sony, BMG, PolyGram, as well as a number of independent labels. She has collaborated with artists such as Ikue Mori, Mari Kimura, Alan Licht, Nurit Tilles, Okkyung Lee, Aki Onda and Zeena Parkins. In addition to video performances, she also directed several short experimental films, often with the sound design of prominent personalities of the avant-garde scene, such as Elliott Sharp, Christian Marclay or John Duncan.
Her works have been presented and exhibited at, among others, the New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center, at documenta in Kassel, at The Kitchen in New York, at the Musée d’art contemporain de Lyon, at the City of Women Festival, at the Chelsea Art Museum, at the HiTeca Festival, at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, at the Experimenta Festival, at the International Short Film Festival Hamburg and at the Impakt Festival.
